Terry Plumeri "Blue in Green" (CD)
Blue in Green from Terry Plumeri is an innovation to jazz recordings which feature the acoustic bass. The entire CD showcases the exclusive use of the bowed acoustic bass, occupying the featured role in a repertoire of jazz standards. All melodies of each tune and all bass solos are bowed. The only pizzicato bass used, is in accompaniment to the piano solos. The extraordinary beauty of tone and technical proficiency shown on the bass, makes for a brand new and memorable listening experience.
Joe LaBarbera of The Bill Evans Trio fame, provides one of his finest recordings in recent years. In addition to his relentless sensitivity and always tasteful contribution to the moment to moment growth of the music, there are three beautifully constructed drum solos which appear on tracks one, three and seven. His solo on Beautiful Love is a rare treat of brush activated drum and cymbal colors.
David Goldblatt, born in Chicago and currently one of Los Angeles' finest pianists, contributes an unusually warm and spacious harmonic environment for the group. The harmonic landscape created on Blue In Green leaves one feeling as though they have not only extended the dark moody flavors of the Kind Of Blue recording, but have revisited that room from a newly discovered doorway.
Terry Plumeri's innovative style of bowing jazz solos on the acoustic bass has garnered critical acclaim from the Washington Post, Jazz Improv Magazine, allaboutjazz.com and Jazz Improv Magazine.
